I have a 7-month old doberman pup that weighs around 60 lb now. Brought her home when she was 8 weeks old, into a home that already had 4 other dogs, small terriers. My dobie, Ziva, gets along well with all my other dogs, but one terrier mix, Lilly, has started to show signs of a power struggle with her, and Ziva is more than willing to oblige. They started out playing tug of war with toys, and there was never any issues with their playing, but now that Ziva has grown 3 times larger than Lilly is, she can drag Lilly across the floor with the toy, and then Lilly growls, shows her teeth, and "it's ON" between the two of them. This has all started just in the past 2 - 3 weeks, when they were outside together with one of my other terriers, and when they all three came back inside, Lilly had some small puncture wounds on the inside of her back legs, while Lucy (the other terrier) and Ziva both had light blood splatters and smears on their fur, but no punctures at all. I suspect that they both ganged up on Lilly and gave her a beating. Since that episode, we never leave them unsupervised, inside or outside, and try to stop all playing when it starts to escalate into a growling match. Ziva doesnt seem to want to hurt Lilly, but she plays SO rough because she is is big and powerful and still only 7 months old, Lilly seems to take on a 'defensive' attitude, not wanting to be hurt. What can I do to stop them from this rough play/argument/possible aggression towards each other? It's not always bad between them...they often share a spot on the couch together for a nap, both sleep beside each other, and can literally both lick the remains of ice cream out of the same bowl at the same time without as much as an eyebrow raised towards each other. I want to believe that this will pass when Ziva matures, but deep down, I fear that they will end up getting into a real fight, and Lilly wont stand a chance. Any suggestions??

With regards to your story, well I guess the rival was there since they were not on the same breed and especially when theyre not equal on size, what I can suggest is that consult to some dog trainers that could train the behavior of your dogs they can help you with it. Hope it will help .

I think a little time and a trip to a dog trainer would stop the rivalry. They obviously have a big difference and I think that's the cause of the fights.

Over a year has passed since my original post here, and what I did was monitor every single minute that the two dogs were together for over six months. They were never unsupervised, and I stopped all rough playing between them the moment it started. I also took my doberman, Ziva, to obedience classes, tracking classes, even a basic agility class to keep her mind busy and spent a lot of time with her and Lilly together at home, playing with them together and individually. My patience seems to have paid off. They no longer fignt at all. The worst that happens is when Ziva is sleeping or has a toy and Lilly gets too close to her, she gives a low 'warning growl' and Lilly backs off. Peace at last!
