A new column has been published in the Pupforum Ask a Trainer section:
Doberman Is Hard To Walk Hello, I have a five year old male Doberman named Hunter. He is overall a wonderful boy! He was housebroken easily at 10 weeks old, does not chew on anything, he is very lovable, and loves kids and other animals. I would really like to walk him on a leash but when he was a puppy I got pregnant and had to tie him out rather than walk him. Now he pulls me all over the place when I try....
Post your comments on the column here.

I dont want to start a contraversy, so I'll just give you my opinion, and assume that opposing opinions will follow. I have found a Gentle Leader head halter to work wonderfully with my 85-lb dobie that also likes to pull when on a leash. You want to use some common sense when using any head-halter, though, and not jerk on it or allow the dog to wander off from right beside you. Also, a 'choker' type of training collar placed high on the dog's neck, at the jaw line, and NOT against the trachea, works well for me also.
If you are a novice to either of these training devices, I would suggest that you ask someone who is familiar with them to SHOW you the proper way to use them.
BTW---Dobies are great, aren't they? :-)

Has he been this way for years? You say he's 5 yrs old. What about trying obedience training?

I love the Gentle Leader but for some people it's a hassle to get them on so they shy away from them. Have you tried using a harness?
