I adopted a 5 months old miniature poodle 2 weeks ago. It's been very cold outside, so I can't walk her. She definitely look bored and need exercise. We can't do too much obedience training everyday because she is still starting to learn the most basic commands and I don't want to stuff her with too much snacks. I got her some toys hoping that she would play with them or we could play together. However, she has no interest in the toys. I tried rubbing cheese (she doesn't like peanut butter) on her toys, but after she licked off the cheese, she would ignore the toys again. How can I teach her to play with toys? Or how can I exercise her indoor? Keep in mind that this puppy doesn't know anything yet. She has just learned her name and "sit", and I'm trying to teach her "down" now. The only thing she likes are those rawhide bones, but she would eat them, so I can't let her play with those anymore.
Thanks!

Well you really can't make a dog like toys. You could do the cheese trick every day and she may associate good toys with taste but that may not work.Do any of your friends have small or younger dogs that would do good with her? If so you could invite them over and let them play together in a room. Also, you could try bones. I don't know if you consider them toys but dogs love bones!! Try to get steak, beef, or liver flavored bones. Bones keep my 4 wheaties busy for hours. Last when I have free time me and my wheaties play treat frisbee. I know you said you didn't want to stuff her but you dont have to do this very often.
Treat Frisbee;
- Tape your dogs favorite treat (small) to a paper plate.
- Then puch four holes in 2 paper plates one on each side left and right op and dow all at a 90 degree angle.
- Then put one paper plate on top, the one without the treat. Tie them together using 4 small paices of sting. Tie a knot at one end then onces it through tie a knot at the other end, make sure its tight.
- Make sure she smells the treat and knows its in there. She will try to tear it apart when you toss it but it might make a mess. Its easy to clean up though and it keeps your dog busy and having fun!
