My dog is a 5yr old neutered male Chow Chow who I take on leashed daily walks in our neighborhood. I always carry pepper spray with me "just in case" Well, the other night we were out and from out of nowhere came an unleashed neighborhood dog, a Rottweiller - with no owners in sight. The inevitable happened and he went after my dog, who went after him and a messy dog fight ensued - me holding my dog’s leash and trying everything to separate them - after about 15 seconds of this I pepper sprayed the two - and thankfully stopped the fight. Bad side was I was left with a chow covered in pepper spray.
I know the spray works but I did a little research feeling the best way to prevent this ever happening again is to keep the other dog away - have you heard of the Dazer II? It's an ultrasonic dog deterrent - using sound to keep other dogs at bay. Before I purchase this I thought to ask. I have my bag O tools I carry with me when we walk, a small shake can for when he is hypnotized on a squirrel, a nice loud whistle, and he always wears his choke collar which is a wonder!
My dog definitely doesn't like other dogs, his previous owners never socialized him unfortunately. He is well mannered and obedience traine
d unless a dog taunts him. But if that other dog is leashed we have no problem - I tell him no and we walk on. (before our obedience training he was a terror whenever we encountered anyother dog or people too - but thankfully no longer) I am just worried about encountering another loose dog, there are so many irresponsible owners out there! Thanks for your help! (mlou, Illinois)

So sorry that all happened to you! I am glad that you were able to get out of it without injury to yourself or your dog, even if you did have to pepper spray. In some instances pepper spray will actually make things worse, but when there is a Rottweiller charging at you, use whatever you think will keep you and your dog safe.
I looked at the device you are thinking about and unfortunately no, I don't think it would be effective. Your idea to keep the dog away is a good one but that device would hurt your dog’s ears more because he is closer to it.
